Just in case you haven’t heard of China’s latest pop phenomenon Li Yuchun, let me introduce you. She recently won China’s “Super Girl” contest, a talent show broadcast to over 400 million viewers, and quite similar to the US’s “American Idol” show. Despite not being the strongest singer or dancer of the bunch, it seems she’s hit a nerve with the Chinese public because of what many termed “her over the top originality.” She reportedly showed up to early auditions wearing loose jeans, no make-up, and an overly androgynous “Ziggy Stardust” like persona. The jury’s still out on whether her success will last, but the management team assembling around her at the moment, seem quite confident that they have a future star on their hands.
