Although she’s an actress by trade, recently published photographs of Korean starlet Jeon Ji-hyun, reveal quite another side. The photos in question, were apparently taken for a cosmetic company that she currently endorses, and have created such a stir, that rumor has it that several top music industry execs may be planning a possible pop music debut. A pop star in hiding, secretly training for over 3 years? That’s the claim being reported by several Korean media outlets, regarding pop newcomer Zhang Li Yin. At the tender age of 13 she was handpicked by one of SM Entertainment’s top Chinese talent scouts, and then quickly sent off to Korea for intensive training. Many are calling her the Chinese version of BoA, and look for quite a lot of buzz following her debut later this month..
The YG family concert tour, and it’s apparent lack of available tickets, has been a frustrating experience for many. In case you don’t know, YG Entertainment is an artist management company specializing in the Korean R&B & Hip Hop scenes– representing artists such as Se7en, Big Mamma and Gummy, just to name a few. YG’s stable of top performers have been preparing for months for the shows, it’s just too bad that more tickets weren’t available, considering the popularity of the artists involved.
Jerry Yan officially launches his own private website this month, offering fans some quite interesting perks. Hoping to be more accessible to his audience, Jerry will be giving out such things as free concert tickets, special passes to meet him personally, and other exclusive gifts yet to be announced. There’s a hefty fee attached, but those of his most diehard fans may find the perks might justify the expense involved.
Of course it wouldn’t be appropriate to end this months column without mentioning the controversy around the unauthorized nude photos taken of Twins member Gillian Chung. It’s been all over the Asian press, with both the public, and her fellow celebrities, coming together in protest. Gillian was obviously quite shaken over the incident, and it looks like pictures such as these may become harder to print in the coming years. The intense public scrutiny over the affair, has forced the Hong Kong government to review the privacy laws on their books, and to reevaluate whether these kinds of photographs should be made illegal going into the future.
