Casting for the musical “Notre-Dame De Paris” (Korean Version) is now officially over. Producers choose Moon Hye-Won, a relative unknown, to play the pivotal role of Esmeralda–which was surprising to many. Casting directors had originally envisioned a quite different person playing the role, but her audition, and apparent review of hundreds of hours of previous performances, convinced them they had found their girl.

Yes, there’s yet another Asian music debut seen coming on the horizon, and she goes by the name of Son Dam-Bi. After rumors of her dancing skills began spreading across the internet, there was a rush of fans looking to get, if even a small glimpse, of her reputed talents. Several videos demonstrating her skills are making the internet rounds, and some feel she may just be the next big thing. A cursory look at some of the videos in circulation, and it’s clear those predictions may not be too far off the mark.

With a voice that’s been mesmerizing TV audiences throughout China for quite awhile now, Chinese pop singer Zhang Liangying, is making many in Asian music take notice– in a slightly unexpected way. After winning 3rd place in China’s incredibly popular “Super Girl” contest, she is not only known for her beautiful voice, but for her preference for singing English language cover songs. This has caused many of her loyal audience members, intrigued by her command of the language, to inundate Chinese bookstores and language schools, scrambling for the most direct and effective tools to learning the language. Businesses are making claims that, because of her growing influence, they’re seeing shortages of some of the more popular titles, and are having to order significantly more just to keep pace with the demand she brings.
Japanese comedian Ochi Yosuke, has to be walking on a cloud this month, after winning the Air Guitar World Championship in Finland recently. Only practicing for a couple of days, he shocked the judges with his powerful, albeit slightly comedic performance of “Are you gonna be my girl?” by the band JET. The Youtube video doesn’t really do the performance justice–he really had the crowd going. He walked away with a specially designed Finnish guitar and amplifier, donated by Brian May of the British rock group Queen. But more importantly, being part of a story that is sure to be circulating Japan for many months into the future..
